Movie about soke Takayuki Kubota 10th dan Gosoku-ryu karate from www.empiremediallc.com Born in Kumamoto, Japan, Takayuki Kubota began studying martial arts at the age of four under the direction of his father, Denjiro Kubota. He has taught police techniques for over 35 years from simple handcuffing to the world famous baton and Kubotan techniques. He has taught at 34 law enforcement agencies all over the world including the Tokyo and Los Angeles police departments, the FBI and the California Highway patrol. An American citizen since 1974, Grand Master Kubota devotes much of his time to teaching karate at his school in Glendale, California. Although he is well known for having been an instructor to some of the most prominent members of our society, he is most sincerely interested in the development of karate at all levels …
@robertkmerrill my dad trained under Kubota in 70s,when I was about 13-14 i had the chance to go wrestle around on matts with Kubota; being a kid and seeing a senior citizen I was skeptical of his force, but quickly learned this senior citizen was no joke and although he was just toying with me coming into contact with any part of this man was like coming into contact with concrete. My dad always told me that you don’t want to hit him because you hurt your hand more than you hurt him
wow awesome
Tak Kubota is hard to describe in words. I studied under Jim Mather, now a 9th degree Black Belt trained by Tak Kubota.
In the 70’s our higher ranking Black Belts (not me) trained with Kubota. When I asked how it was to kumite (spar) with the Master the common response was “it hurts when he hits you and it hurts you when you hit him.
What I found amazing about the man was I stopped by the dojo at noon during the week. Kubota was there early preparing to teach the class.
it will be a seminary in US this weekend in LA
Kubota has acknowleged the influence of shotokan upon gosoku-ryu. He said in an interview some 25 years ago that he liked shotokan’s strong, focused techniques, but wanted his system to be more flexible. His words, as far as I can recall them, were these: “Shotokan is a little too stiff” –
awesome
