my dad, also from japan trained under him when he came to california back in the 70s/80s, about ten years ago when i was about 13-14 i had the chance to go and wrestle around with him on the mats; being a teenage boy and seeing a senior citizen before me I was skeptical of his force and effectiveness. Needless to say my skepticism was take away from me, although he was just toying with me coming into contact with any part of this man was like coming into contact with concrete
@gyromancy2
its more like… 1 second after coming you too close…
@gyromancy2 Well considering one punch could kill someone, a lot faster than that.
Bruce Lee said : In martial arts belts are only use to hold your pants its not the belt but the ability and courage who make great martial artist like soke kubota
dont play guns around him!
I cast no aspersions on his ability to kick the ass of many other 10th dans, I am more questioning the long arduous paths many are forced to take in the uchideshi system to learn “secrets” ,when talented people such as Kubota and oyama (and many in tai ji, xing i, shaolinq, etc legends) quite clearly learned greatly by copying , and at quite a young age too. Perhaps they need to embellish their history a little to get their foot in the door of credibility – I just wish they didn’t.
I agree there are a lot of 10th dans now and Sokes and Hanshis etc . I remember in the guiness book of world records in 1973 Gogen Yamaguchi was in a small group of 10th dans in the world and now every dojo you go to has a 10th dan of some sort. So I agree that the hype of people is over rated on many occasions. All I was saying with this original comment is that I respect the man for his talents and knowledge he has gained over the years and would be honoured to be taught by him. Take Care
You know what I have no idea who gave him the title of Soke nor have followed his history so I cannot debate on his qualifications all I know is that I have seen a ton of footage of him and he knows his stuff and I would be honoured to train with him if I could. All I know is that he is the founder of his own system Gosoku Ryu and pushed the yawara stick into the Kubotan Keychain and taught such stars as James Caan
i train under 9th dan hanchi rupe he gave me a swollen hand today…nice..hard to type as well now
Thank you for posting this video 5 stars. Soke Kubota is one tough guy . Top notch video.
cool
is he fucking insane? lol
wow that looks painful aspesally the bar.
Kancho Okuyama (IKA) is my Master, he graded me to Nidan in 2003, and I have done many Kubotan Seminars with him. I would love to take a Seminar/Class with Soke Kubota.
thats my grand master
more like a split second. one punch kill hahaha no seriously
true that haha
Lol wtf
What a cool guy =)
Id love to try this style of karate
hahaha, punch a hog in the face hahaha
That worring!
A good idea. I’ve no doubt that you CAN train correctly to achieve hard fists like he has… but you better know the correct methods for the conditioning, as well as rest and recovery. Otherwise, you can seriously destroy your hands.
I’ve met sensei Kubota – a kind gentleman – just don’t piss him off!
you should see him hit himself with that hammer….
I get the feeling that this guy is tough
Though I think I’ll stick to striking vital points and not losing my finger functionality.
